Former Hull City captain Michael Dawson believes the club’s decision to sack Liam Rosenior a year ago has backfired.
Rosenior was dismissed after narrowly missing out on the play-offs last season, and his replacement Ruben Selles was sacked last week after keeping City in the Championship on goal difference. In between, German coach Tim Walter lasted just a few months.
Speaking to Gambling.com, Dawson questioned the club’s direction under owner Acun Ilicali, who is now searching for his fifth permanent manager since January 2022.
“Twelve months ago it was Rosenior, now it’s Selles,” said Dawson. “It’s been a really poor season from Hull’s point of view. When you lose players like Greaves, Philogene, Morton, Delap and Carvalho to the Premier League, it was always going to be a challenge.”
He added: “Getting rid of Liam has backfired. Look at what he’s doing at Strasbourg. He’s got a young group and he’s doing an incredible job.”
Rosenior, now managing in France, was praised by Dawson for his early coaching mindset and strong reputation for developing young talent.
