Hull City are on the hunt for their fifth permanent manager since Acun Ilicali’s takeover, following the sacking of Ruben Selles on Thursday.

Selles was dismissed less than two weeks after guiding City to Championship safety with a final-day draw at Portsmouth.

Speculation over his replacement is already underway, though sources have played down links to early bookmakers’ favourite Tom Cleverley, who was recently dismissed by Watford. Tony Mowbray, also near the top of the betting, is not believed to be in the frame.

Brighton assistant Andrew Crofts and former Swansea boss Luke Williams have both been listed at 8/1, with Rob Edwards, Gary O’Neil, and ex-City defender Ryan Mason among the other names mentioned.

No formal shortlist has been confirmed, but a swift appointment is expected ahead of the squad’s return to pre-season training in early July.
