Ruben Selles has been dismissed as Hull City head coach less than two weeks after keeping the club in the Championship.

Selles was informed of the decision on Thursday following meetings in Istanbul earlier this week, chaired by owner Acun Ilicali. Sporting director Jared Dublin, recruitment chief Martin Hodge, and board member Mustapha Yokes were also involved. Assistants James Oliver-Pearce and Toby Loveland have also left the club.

Selles, who replaced Tim Walter in December, took charge of 26 league games and one FA Cup tie, collecting 33 points with a record of nine wins, seven draws and 11 defeats. His side finished as the league’s lowest scorers with 44 goals but conceded just 26 during his tenure — among the best in the division over that period.

A 1-1 draw at Portsmouth on the final day, combined with Luton’s heavy defeat at West Brom, ensured City survived on goal difference.

Despite an improvement in form, the club has opted to make a change. Selles becomes the fifth manager to leave since Ilicali’s takeover in January 2022.

Hull City said in a statement: “Following a thorough review of football operations after a challenging campaign, the club feels a change in leadership is necessary to move the team forward in line with our ambitions.”

A new head coach is expected to be appointed before pre-season begins in July.
