Hull City have until the end of June to decide whether to sign Oscar Zambrano on a permanent deal.
The 21-year-old midfielder is currently on loan from LDU Quito, and the Ecuadorian club’s sporting director, Eduardo Álvarez, confirmed the decision now lies with City.
“Hull City has the option to acquire Oscar Zambrano – the ball is in their court,” Álvarez told Ecuadorian outlet Machdeportes.
Zambrano was hit with an 18-month doping ban last November for an offence committed before joining City, but that was reduced on appeal last month. He will be eligible to return to action from 3rd November.
Despite the ban, City have continued to pay part of his wages and offer support. Owner Acun Ilicali has consistently backed the player, describing him as a long-term prospect with strong potential.
If the clause is not activated, Zambrano will return to Quito this summer.
